Adventures in Paradise - Alaskan Style!Rod's "Dog House Cruise" Day 11 - Skagway, Alaska
"It's doubtful you'll succumb to gold fever, but if any place on earth can summon up the thrill of prospecting, it's Skagway. By embracing its gold-rush past, Skagway has managed to preserve a frontier spirit complete with saloons and dance-hall revues. If the spirit does overtake you, passage on the White Pass & Yukon Railway or a ride on the Klondike Highway will take you to places where you can roll up your sleeves and do some prospecting of your own"
Day 11 - The return to Skagway brought us one
of the finer day
After a quick stop at the local diamond shop it was off to find a few treasure to bring back for a few friends. Very nice little town and today we only had two cruise ships in town so it wasn't to over crowded!
Nice view of the street in Skagway, it is an easy walk, but there "alternative means of transportation, horse & buggy style!
For me I was asked to find a "piece of the rock" and low & behold look what I found, a secret hiding spot for just what the doctor ordered, a local rock shop! This little spot was great fun with local rocks, as well as gold nuggets, and it even sold this family "buckets of dirt" that the kids, along with a little help from dad, got to screen like they were panning for gold! They found all sort of fun stones in their bucket of dirt and got to keep it all, great time was had by all, even me watching!
Here, right next to where the ships docked, is where many guest boarded the train that offers a variety of tours to White Pass, very popular & easy access!
Once back onboard for me it was a beauty all around, nice day!
The weather today couldn't have been much better, and now it was time to get cleaned up, have a cup of coffee, catch a show and enjoy a fine dinning experience, just another day here in paradise for all onboard the Millennium!
See you tomorrow form Icy Straight Point!
