Adventures in Paradise - Alaskan Style!Rod's "Dog House" Cruise Day 6 - Icy Strait Point, Alaska
"Fifty miles west of Juneau and at the mouth of Glacier Bay, lies historic Icy Strait Point. Travelers have the unique opportunity to experience Tlingit culture, superior wildlife viewing opportunities and years of Alaskan history"
Day 6 - Here in Icy Straight Point the first thing that happens in the early morning in the Captain drops the anchors as this stop is what we call "Tendered". What that means if you are not aware of this term is that the cruise ship anchors in the inlet and we all jump onboard the "life boats" for the short 5 minute ride to the dock.
Tender Service! Above is a group returning from land via a life boat, this service is called "Tender Service". On your right is a tender just leaving the ship with a load of guests headed to shore for the day for a shore excursion or just to take a walk to stretch their leg on solid land!
Once to shore you can select from a variety of excursions like kayaking or take an up close sightseeing boat ride. Check back on my return trip, Day-12, as I head to the top of the hill to see about taking the longest "Zip Line" ride in the world!
After leaving at 5:00 pm we saw some of the best scenery I have seen in Alaska!
Before leaving the inlet we pass by a large glacier, look a the large image of this shot, beautiful! The sun was just going down on "Day 6", nice way to the day before heading out to sea for the evening's dinner and entertainment!
Back inside it turn on the lights and let the party begin, well if that's what you like! For me it was time to sit down to enjoy a steak and lobster dinner followed by baked Alaska desert and a great show, oh yeah then it was the mid-night desert buffet!
So the day ends a little late for me, but hey life is good, it's been a busy day, but NOTHING like it will be for me tomorrow!
Can't wait to share out day in Hubbard Glacier as well as many special events for me to share, see you tomorrow!
