Adventures in Paradise - Alaskan Style!Rod's "Dog House" Cruise This webpage was developed to be a "Day-2-Day" journal of my "Back-2-Back" journey onboard the Millennium in August of 2009. Not only was this "adventure in Paradise" worth every minute, but the cost for me to get out of the "Dog House" was worth every dime! So what I am talking about, let's go back to the beginning.
In July of 2009 a very unique opportunity to join a good friend of mine came my way. It was a chance of a lifetime for "me" to spend a couple of weeks learning how my counterpart with Celebrity Cruises® does his job onboard, booking cruises like I do in my office. To see what he sees, stay where he stays, learn what he knows and yet get to enjoy the cruise experience, just like all of Celebrity's pampered guests get to enjoy while on their cruise vacation! To me, with all my enthusiasm for cruising, the desire for more product knowledge, and the thought of sharing my experience with you, it was just too hard for me not to accept this opportunity.
Unfortunately along with making the decision to accept the offer to join my friend, I had to accept the fact that the love of my life was NOT going to be happy with me. As I mentioned above, "I" was invited to "stay" with my friend, which meant I was going alone and with the "Flow"! Yes, I think we can all now understand why this cruise for me has been called, Rod's "Dog House" Cruise!
What I hope these pages do for you is help you visualize what an Alaskan cruise is all about. The splendor and the beauty of the last frontier and the life onboard a wonderful cruise ship. So follow along, read along, check out the pictures and put yourself in them, because this should give you a really good idea of what YOU can expect from a Celebrity Cruises® cruise to Alaska and the West Coast of Canada.
Rod Hunt - Owner/Agent
Let the Journey begin! Below are the two "itineraries" that I've enjoyed in what is known as a "Back-2-Back" cruise. What that means if you have not heard of this before is, my 14 nights were made up of two 7 night cruises. The first leg, known as the "Northbound", starts in Vancouver, BC and travels north to Seward where for most of the passengers this was the end of the line. For myself, and the crew, we said our good-byes to our northbound guests, cleaned house and welcomed our new "Southbound" guests. Some of these new guests started days earlier in Fairbanks and spent days visiting Denali National Park and various stops along the way onboard a beautiful train car that is exclusive to Celebrity Cruises, nice way to start, or end, your 7 night cruise.
I have links from this page that will take you to pages for each and every one of my 15 days. You'll find these links on the left and right sides of all my pages, as well as below the maps here showing our route. These links will be found throughout these pages along with LOTS of pictures. It is my philosophy that a "picture is worth a thousand words" and I love reading pictures so I hope you enjoy them all!
My journey begins in Redmond Oregon with a flight to Seattle Washington, changed planes and flew onto Vancouver, BC. "The Millennium" departs from Vancouver, BC at 5:45 pm and heads north through the "Inside Passage" on the way to the ports of Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Icy Straight Point. Then one of the most impressive sights I have ever seen, and heard, Hubbard Glacier! The first leg of my journey is the end of the line for most of the guests onboard as their 7 day cruise ends in Seward, for me, it was my "Turn-a-round" day!
Day 1 Vancouver, British Columbia Depart 5:45 pm Day 2 Inside Passage Cruising All Day! Day 3 Ketchikan, Alaska Docked 7:00 am - 3:00 pm Day 4 Juneau, Alaska Docked 8:00 am - 9:00 pm Day 5 Skagway, Alaska Docked 7:00 am - 8:30 pm Day 6 Icy Strait Point, Alaska Tendered 7:00 am - 5:00 pm Day 7 Hubbard Glacier Cruising & Viewing! 7:00 am - 11:00 am Day 8 Seward, Alaska Docked Arrive 3:00 am
The 7 Night Southbound Alaskan Cruise
A reverse of the "Northbound" from Vancouver. Departs from Seward and heads south, first stop, Hubbard Glacier then Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Ketchikan through the Inside Passage and end in Vancouver. Works great for a "CruiseTour" at the front end or consider a "Back-2-Back" with the Northbound for 14 nights
Day 8 Seward, Alaska Docked Depart 9:00 pm Day 9 Hubbard Glacier Cruising & Viewing! 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Day 10 Juneau, Alaska Docked 8:00 am - 9:00 pm Day 11 Skagway, Alaska Docked 7:00 am - 8:30 pm Day 12 Icy Strait Point, Alaska Tendered 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Day 13 Ketchikan, Alaska Docked 9:00 am - 6:00 pm Day 14 Inside Passage Cruising All Day! Day 15 Vancouver, British Columbia Arrive 7:00 am
